How it all began...

When I was 16, I was 118kg (260 pounds) and certified as ‘morbidly obese’.
I wore this tag with dread. I grew to hate yearly school checkups.
The pounds piled up year on year, consistently. My ability to pile on weight year on year never faltered. A blue-chip stock, I guaranteed consistent yields.
I would gain 10 pounds after each vacation stuffing myself with junk food while I lay on the couch watching the latest drama series.
Fast forward 14 years later, I had lost 45kg (100 pounds), helping countless other women through their own transformations as a holistic fitness coach.
How did you do it? What's the magic pill to your incredible transformation?
I decided to learn ALL I could about fat loss.
As many as 80 to 95% of dieters gain back the weight they’ve worked so hard to lose. I too, found myself on the same path of weight regain.

Initially, I wanted to become skinny as quickly as possible. I didn’t have the patience to build healthy, wholesome habits that would last me.
I resorted to extreme diets, piled on the cardio, and trained multiple times a day.
At one point I was training a few hours a day and eating so little I always felt tired, dizzy and foggy-headed. Worse of all, my weight loss stalled.
It’s a hard pill to swallow; quick fixes might deliver QUICK RESULTS but you’re like to gain back the weight and MORE after you resuming regular habits.
After I lost a drastic amount of weight for a fitness photoshoot, I developed other health issues. It was then that I decided enough was enough.
I had sought to lose fat for health reasons more than a decade ago, but now found my mental, emotional and wellbeing deteriorating. Back at square one.
I gave up on the extreme methods and turned to a more holistic fitness methods, learning all I could about holistic health and fitness, spending thousands on professional certifications and programs. I was a sponge, absorbing all I could.

Basics of Nutrition
Gentle nutrition was something I discovered on my journey, which blends science-based principles with a holistic approach to eating.
I mastered the basics of nutrition science - having a clear understanding of the energy values of food, how different food groups fuel my body and the optimum food choices that meet my nutritional needs.
However, these are all good to know but not strict rules to adhere by! A flexible approach to eating and nutrition is key to sustainability.

Mindful Eating Practices
Instead of categorizing food as 'good' or 'bad', which led me to constantly question my food choices and banning my favorite treats as guilty pleasures, I tuned into my hunger and satiety cues.

I identified emotional triggers that led me to turn to food to comfort. Instead of emotional eating, I healed my relationship with food.
By remaining in the present, I learnt to appreciate the taste of the foods I loved in moderation. I stopped feeling deprived of joys of life!

Flexible Dieting Approaches
​When I adopted highly restrictive diets, I found myself craving foods I never used to. As I studied more about the effect that different types of food had on my body, I learnt that I wasn't fully to blame for my fat loss failures.
Extreme restriction has a negative impact on mental, emotional and physiological health. I became kinder to myself. Instead of viewing food as the enemy, I adopted flexible dieting. When there are no 'off-limit' foods; I could incorporate my favorite treats into my diet in moderation!
Reinforced by my nutrition knowledge, I made meals that were satisfying and still tasty, and leant how to make healthier options even when eating out.

I believe in creating sustainable habits and routines that you can maintain for life, rather than quick fixes. After all, your fitness journey is a sustained one!
